The Tampa Bay Lightning started the season the way they ended last season, winning impressively.

The Lightning, one of the best offensive teams in the NHL last season, has scored ten goals in two games and averaged five goals a game to open the season as they took down the Chicago Blackhawks 5-1 and 5-2 to start the season.

The Lightning is just the fourth Stanley Cup champion in the last 20 years to start the season with ten goals in their first two games.

The captain Steven Stamkos has led the way with two goals and three assists, to lead the team in scoring.

Ondrej Palat has two goals, while Anthony Cirelli, Braydon Point, and Alex Killorn each have two assists.

There were lots of questions about whether or not Stamkos would be ready to start the season. Stamkos has answered that question and spoke about how he feels to the media after Wednesday night’s home-opening win. “It’s the best I’ve felt in a long time. I feel like I’m just going to build off that and continue to get stronger as the season progresses. I haven’t played a lot of hockey for a long time, so it was a good start.”

The other area of concern coming into the season was the power play with Nikita Kucherov out for the season with hip surgery. The Lightning has started the season 2/7 on the power play, with Palat and Stamkos getting the power-play goals.

In the season opener, the Lightning dominated the Blackhawks from start to finish. The Lightning held Chicago scoreless until Dylan Strome scored a power-play for Chicago at the 15:03 mark of the third period to make the final score 5-1.

The Lightning was dominant in these two games. They outscored the Blackhawks 10-3 and allowed one goal five on five.

The area that the Lightning may need to work on is their play in the second period. At times in Friday’s game, they looked bored and lazy as they let Chicago score two quick goals to cut the lead to 3-2.

Overall, a pretty impressive performance by the Lightning to open the season. Andrei Vasilevskiy was stellar in goal, stopping 57 of 60 shots on goal.

The next two games against the Dallas Stars scheduled for Sunday and Tuesday night have been postponed. The Lightning will be in Columbus next Thursday to open up a two-game series with the Blue Jackets.
